Digital Construction Engineering and Collaboration (BIM) was the title of the lecture given by Dr George Kapogiannis to a class of apprenticeship students recently at Kingston University. Hosted by Dr Konstantinos Poutos, the lecture, which took place on 24th January, focused on BIM as not simply a software or technology, but as an integrated collaborative environment where process and technology are used to support decision making, problem solving and developing proactive behaviour
The greatest challenge observed in Digital Construction today is the lack of open minded people with strong competences in social skills and beyond. But when BIM and Digital Construction are introduced early, as in the case of Kingston’s apprenticeship program, it has the power to effect a change in culture and form the next generation of more capable civil engineers.
Special thanks were due to Mr Graham Terry from Politia Group for sharing his expertise in BIM through Revit.
